Broker's Comments
Boatshed Wales is delighted to introduce for sale this unique Cheetah Cat 5.45 workboat. To appreciate the merits of this distinctive and highly capable vessel, it’s important to share a bit of the story behind its conception.
Commissioned by an owner with a vision, the intent to redesign the Cheetah 6.2m catamaran was born from the need for a lighter, more fuel-efficient, and drier boat. An agreement with the company led to the creation of "Catfish" and its accompanying mould, built to exceptionally high production standards at GRP Mouldings under the supervision of Cheetah Marine.
Throughout the build process, a combination of polyester resin and epoxy lay-up was used to create an ultra-strong hull with sharply defined lifting strakes on the underwater profile. These design elements effectively eliminate side wash, providing a dry ride with exceptional seakeeping performance.
The client’s criteria included not only a tough workboat but also one with minimal maintenance requirements. As a result, the Coppercoat antifouling remains in excellent condition, and the gel coat has retained its original quality. The hull is protected by commercial-grade rubbing strakes, and the fuel storage is securely housed in locked stern compartments. The twin battery installation features completely independent circuitry throughout the boat. Additionally, a powerful windlass is installed, making anchor deployment and retrieval as simple as pushing a button.
The highly economical twin 50hp Honda engines deliver a cruising speed of 16 knots and a top speed of 28 knots. Stringent maintenance and servicing ensure that these twin engines consistently perform at their best.
This boat is a clever adaptation of Cheetah’s go-to model, perfectly designed for demanding commercial work in the toughest conditions.
The sale includes a launching trolley and a full road-spec aluminum trailer for on-road transport.
This is a highly capable boat, ideally suited for leisure or commercial fishing and potting work.
