About Steve Hammond
I started working with Boatshed North Devon in October 2014.
What did you do before working with Boatshed?
I am very keen at keeping myself fit and loved working in the fitness industry. As well as working with Boatshed I am also working with the NHS to help rehabilitate patients.
What attracted you to become part of the Boatshed team?
Boatshed offers flexible working which means I can also carry on working with the NHS.
Are you a motorboater or a sailor?
I have sailed dinghy's, cats, cruisers and windsurfers, I have also crewed on several deliveries for Clipper Ventures. I qualified as a Coastal Skipper with Brunel College, Bristol around fifteen years ago and now own my own boat which is a Sunspeed 24 long keeler sloop, moored at Instow in Devon.
What is your most memorable boating experience?
Sailing and boats generally have been a lifelong passion for me, although I did have a baptism by fire! At the age of nineteen I won a company place to sail on the STA Malcolm Miller, along with 39 other very green lads. We set sail in late November, out of Dartmouth and into Biscay, and a force nine gale which raged for three days, needless to say we were all green in more ways than one. However after three weeks aboard and having found our sea legs we departed as sailors and I have never looked back.
