This Birchwood 48 motor yacht is over a meter too high to navigate the Freycinet canals of France but was brought here from Scotland by her intrepid owner and used as a floating home.

Having sold her we wanted to help her new owner find a way to get her back to Paris and though road transport may have been the most obvious solution her new owner is a professional captain and River Seine pilot so a cruising solution was considered more appropriate. We therefore decided to take off the fly bridge and make a sort of “flat pack” of the boat for a delivery voyage.

I found a crane company prepared to undertake the delicate job of getting the sun deck and fly bridge off and on the appointed day we set to work unbolting, disconnecting and generally deconstructing the proud owners new acquisition.

A couple of intense hours later and the sun deck came too rest on the quay side before the fly bridge was lifted off and placed delicately on the aft deck. The sun deck was then turned around and placed gently facing aft over the gaping hole in the saloon roof.

The whole (dis)assembly was then battened down and Trisheena left the port of Roanne on her first voyage for five years, bound for Paris where she will serve her new owner as a floating cruising home.
