Sailing: “The Antidote to Stress”.
Colin Stracey recently bought a Beneteau Oceanis 351 which was for sale with us at Boatshed Essex.
He’s been interested in boating for almost as long as he can remember. He joined the sea scouts in 1967 and started to sail clinker built dinghies.
Colin says:
My first boat was a Midshipman, made of plywood and, as I lived in the Midlands then, had to be towed to Rutland Water, I then moved up to a Hunter 19, two Snapdragons and now a Westerly Oceanquest.
Can you tell us about your boats?
Yes, I now have two boats, Golden Eye, a Westerly Oceanquest which is a solid, four berth, cruising yacht which I keep for personal use and Kingfisher, a Beneteau 351 which is used for teaching people to sail. The Beneteau sleeps 8 in four cabins so is ideal for five students plus skipper. Having three separate sleeping cabins makes her a very versatile vessel and is ideal for three couples or a family.
What do you like about sailing?
Everything is regulated and much enjoyment has been removed from people’s lives by excessive regulation. Sailing provides an antidote to the stress of modern living. Once the ropes are let go you are on your own and you can enjoy the wonder of God’s creation without interference.
Colin was looking for a boat for just six weeks.
I had dealt with Boatshed some years ago when looking for Golden Eye. I met Steve when he visited our marina to photograph a boat that a friend was selling.
What made you choose Boatshed?
The professionalism of Steve and Catherine.
Did you notice anything different about the Boatshed methods or website?
The photographs showed the vessel as she actually was so they reflected the actual condition of the vessel so we did not have a "wasted journey".
Do you have any comments about our service or our staff?
Honest and efficient
What are the best things about boating in Essex?
Sailing in Essex is one of the UK's best kept secrets. Less than an hour’s drive from the city and you can enjoy this amazing coastline and rivers. Here in the Crouch we have Seals and Avocet, Oystercatchers etcetera.
