Surf Fest at Doris Duke's Rough Point Newport Rhode Island
Boatshed Newport International Yacht Brokers were in attendance at the Newport RI 2012 Surf Fest at the Rough Point estate of the late tobacco heiress Doris Duke. She was an avid surfer in Hawaii where she owned another beautiful estate called Shangrila.
In her Newport mansion you can find her beloved all wood longboard made in Hawaii. Above her board is a photo of her in Waikiki with the three Kahanamoku brothers of which Duke is legendary. His first name...her last.
She did not surf in Newport as the coast is rocky and hazardous, hence the name Rough Point. I was amazed at the amount of boards from around the world being displayed on the grounds. Of particular interest were the antique boards that looked quite odd in shape.
This is an annual event here in Newport for charity. Boatshed Newport hopes to see you here next year.
