Tall Ships In Newport RI
It was a fine day along the channel at Ocean Cliff Resort in Newport where you could find me having lunch at the Safari Room whilst watching the Tall Ship parade of sails. What a spectacular sight.
There were numerous Tall Ships from around the world, many of which I could recognize from photos. There was a cute little Sir Martin II built in Holland. She was used as a training ship for the German Navy before going into private ownership.
The HMS Bounty was also resplendent in her royal glory. She (the original) is known for the mutiny in Tahiti in 1789. This vessel built in 1962 is used to teach square-rigged sailing.
Then we have the Picton Castle first built as a Welsh fishing trawler. This barque is 179 feet total with steel masts and over 12,000 square feet of canvas sail. She regularly sails to the South Pacific with supplies.
