The John Davis Memorial Fund
Background to the John Davis Memorial Fund
Lt Col John Davis OBE was Harbour Master at Chichester for nearly fourteen years and last summer, died of a heart attack whilst sailing his Sunbeam “Fleury” with his wife Valerie.
John Davis was very popular, both with fellow sailors and all those in and around the harbour. Ex-Royal Marine John, had been Harbour Master since July 1997 and was responsible for both the harbour authority and the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. He received an OBE in 2005 for services to sailing and the environment of Chichester Harbour.
The aim of the Memorial Fund is to acquire a boat like that shown above which will provide further water-based opportunities for all three Services and their injured service personnel and families in Chichester Harbour.
Art at Upper House, with both the participating artists and their sponsors and the helpful participation of guests and visitors, wish to fully support Valerie Davis and this Memorial Fund at this year’s exhibition, weekend commencing the 23rd of September.
