At Boatshed Grand Union we have boats for sale right across London. We cover all the Grand Union as well as the London canals and the River Lee navigation. Most of our boats for sale in London have moorings; some residential moorings and some central London moorings. As the Olympic flame continues to travel through Grimsby and Lincoln today, London prepares for the start of the Games.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games , together with British Waterways have invited boat owners to showcase their boats in London to “add some extra colour” to the event. The showcase mooring period will begin in late June and continue through the Olympic and Paralympic Games. However boat owners will be unable to access their boats during that period.

British Waterways will also be welcoming the world’s second largest sailing ship to the London Docklands at the end of July. The tall ship Kruzenshtern will be open for the public to step aboard and view. The Olympic Torch begins its tour of the London Borough of Islington at the London Canal Museum on 26th July.

From 3rd July to 10th September navigation controls will be in place on much of London’s waterways. This includes the Regent's Canal, Hertford Union, Limehouse area and the lower river Lee. At the entry checkpoint in Paddington boats will be asked to provide proof that they have permission to moor in the restricted zone. There will be no access between the Hertford Union Canal and the River Lee. Boaters can pass the Olympic Park at pre-determined times by booking in advance.

We have not had to move any of our boats for sale out of the ‘controlled zone’. They all have moorings except for one which is lying in Brentford. So neither the Olympics nor the cruising restrictions have affected our business.

However, Phil Bassett, owner of Boatshed Grand Union said,
“The Olympics may increase interest in boating as people might finally realise that all that water around the Olympic site is canals.”
He added,
“Also it might be questioned how BW think they are going to move all the boats when they have spectacularly failed to do so to date.”
